Freedomia

Freedomia issues digital debit cards funded with cryptocurrencies. Users top up in bitcoin, USDC, USDT, L-BTC or ETH, the balance converts to dollars in the background, and the card works anywhere that accepts Visa.

The promise on the homepage is "from sats to spending in seconds", and Freedomia keeps its side of it. Cards are issued instantly, and every card comes with its own Lightning Address, so topping up is as simple as sending money to an email address.

Bitcoin has always been the quickest way onto the card, which made it the worst thing to lose.

Freedomia's bitcoin deposits ran through a third-party swap provider. When that service went unavailable, the bitcoin route onto the card went down with it.

Getting it back was more than accepting a bitcoin payment. A top-up is three things in a row: sending bitcoin, converting it, and dollars arriving on the card, ready to spend.

Freedomia rebuilt bitcoin deposits with the Breez SDK. They requested an API key at 10pm and were live in production by 9pm the next day. Bitcoin goes in, USDC on Polygon comes out, and the balance is spendable before the user has put their phone down.

For users:

For developers:

Cross-chain conversion is built into the Breez SDK, so bitcoin in and USDC on Polygon out is a single dependency and two calls. No bridge to source, no swap provider to sign, no payment infrastructure to stand up. One day from API key to production.

The SDK can also price a conversion before there's any money in the wallet. That's the piece Freedomia Swap is built on: a stranger sees exactly what they'll get back before they send a single sat.

"Lightning to USDC on Polygon in one dependency. getCrossChainRoutes and prepareSendPayment cover the whole path. No separate bridge, no second provider to keep alive at three in the morning."

For growth:

Freedomia Swap runs on the same integration as the card. Same wallet, same routing, same settlement. A fix to one product arrived as a second one, open to anyone holding bitcoin, with no card and no account required. In the first 48 hours, more than a quarter of all payments came from people who weren't Freedomia customers at all.

That's a new audience reached without new infrastructure, and it gives every one of them a reason to come back for the card. Adding the next product on the same rail is a routing decision, not a rebuild.

Freedomia set out to fix a broken deposit route. They came out of it with a second product.
